“5 Million Students Given Free Meals”

“I Eat Healthy at School” Project Provides Free Meals to 5 Million Pre-School Students in Turkey

The Ministry of National Education in Turkey has launched the “I Eat Healthy at School” project, which aims to promote healthy eating habits, food security, and the quality of food offered to pre-school students. As part of the project, 5 million students in pre-school education are given one free meal every day.

The project is being implemented under the auspices of Emine Erdoğan, the First Lady of Turkey, and the Ministry has allocated a budget for schools that prepare their meals in their own kitchen. For schools without a kitchen, meals are taken from vocational high schools, teachers’ houses, or some public institutions.

Aside from the free meals, teachers and students are also given nutrition and physical activity training, with a total of 7,594 people attending the training sessions so far.

The “I Eat Healthy at School” project is expected to raise awareness about healthy eating habits among the younger generation, as well as promote food security and appropriate nutritional education. With the proper guidelines and support from the government, students will not only be fed but learn to make healthy food choices as they continue their education journey.
