
50th Anniversary Ceremony at Ecevit Statue for Peace Operation

A ceremony will be held in front of the statue of Bülent Ecevit at the entrance to Göçmenköy in Lefkoşa on Friday, July 19, to mark the 50th anniversary of the Cyprus Peace Operation.
The Sönmezliler Association announced that the ceremony will commence with the laying of wreaths and a moment of silence at 9:00 in the morning. The event aims to commemorate the late Prime Minister Bülent Ecevit, also known as “Karaoğlan,” and to reflect on the significance of the Peace Operation.
Erden Esenyel, the Chairman of the Sönmezliler Ocak, expressed gratitude towards the key figures involved in the decision-making process of the Peace Operation, including Bülent Ecevit, Deputy Prime Minister Necmettin Erbakan, and the military commanders. He emphasized that July 20 symbolizes a “rebirth” for the Turkish Cypriot people.
The anniversary ceremony serves as a reminder of the historical significance of the Cyprus Peace Operation and its lasting impact on the region. Participants are encouraged to join in paying tribute to the individuals who played a crucial role in securing peace and stability in Cyprus.
