52 ICU Beds in Gaza Survive Brutal Israeli Attacks
The General Manager of the Ministry of Health in Gaza, Münir Abdullah al-Berş, has spoken out about the dire situation in the region as a result of ongoing attacks by Israel. In a statement on his social media account, Berş expressed concern over the shortage of medication and medical equipment in Gaza’s hospitals due to the blockade imposed by Israel since March 2.
Berş highlighted the devastating impact of Israel’s attacks, noting that more than 1300 healthcare workers have been killed since October 7, 2023, including 150 doctors and 221 nurses. Before the attacks began, there were 3,412 beds available for patients in Gaza’s hospitals, but now the region is facing critical shortages in intensive care beds, medication, and medical materials.
The situation is particularly dire in the north of Gaza, where only 5 intensive care beds are available for the approximately 1.2 million Palestinians living there. The Israeli Army’s targeting of hospitals and health institutions has led to more than half of the 34 hospitals in Gaza being rendered out of service.
Despite the challenges, hospitals in Gaza are making every effort to continue operations and serve the population in need. However, their ability to do so is severely hampered by Israel’s restrictions on the entry of essential medical supplies.
The international community is urged to take immediate action to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and ensure that medical assistance reaches those in need. The ongoing attacks on healthcare facilities and personnel must be condemned, and efforts must be made to bring an end to the violence and suffering in the region.
