65 Athletes from Hungary Set for Olympics
Hungary Gears Up for the Paris Olympics
As the Paris Olympics approach, Hungary is ramping up its preparations as the country secured five more Olympic quotas in recent months. The Hungarian contingent of athletes is shaping up to be a formidable force at the upcoming games, with national teams playing a significant role in influencing the composition of the delegation.
The Paris Olympics are set to kick off on July 26, 2024, and Hungary is expected to send a large delegation to the event. With the addition of two gold medal wrestlers, Ismail Musukaev and David Losonczi, the Hungarian Olympic contingent has seen a significant boost in recent months. In addition to the wrestlers, three gymnasts, Csenge Bácskay, Bettina Lili Czifra, and Krisztofer Mészáros, secured quotas in Antwerp, while several swimmers have also earned their spots, with more opportunities available at the upcoming European Championships in Belgrade.
The total number of Hungarian athletes competing in Paris will also depend on the qualification of national teams, with the men’s water polo team securing its place in the games. The Hungarian Olympic Committee has expressed expectations of a team of 150 to 200 athletes, with hopes of surpassing the achievements of the previous games in Tokyo, where Hungarian athletes won a total of 20 medals.
Hungary’s traditional strength in kayak canoeing also offers promise for success at the Paris Olympics, with the men’s team already securing all quotas and the women’s team expected to fulfill theirs at a qualifying event in Szeged. In fencing, both the men’s and women’s teams are in a good position for qualification, while individual athletes are also poised to secure their spots.
In tennis, Fábián Marozsán and Márton Fucsovics have shown promising results, ranking 43rd and 67th respectively in the points table, making them strong contenders for Olympic qualification.
With the prospect of more individual athletes qualifying for the games, Hungary’s hopes for medals are on the rise. As the countdown to the Paris Olympics continues, the Hungarian delegation is gearing up for what promises to be an exciting and competitive global sporting event.
