7 Dead in Iran Floods

Seven people have tragically lost their lives in a devastating flood in Mashhad, Iran, according to the official Iranian agency IRNA. The Chairman of the Mashhad Municipality Fire Brigade, Hamidriza Kafiniya, shared in a statement that the flood resulted in the deaths of 2 individuals in their vehicles at Mashhad Revolution Square, as well as a mother and her 4 children who were trapped in their homes.

Following the flood, fire crews immediately sprang into action to assist those affected by the disaster. Kafiniya mentioned that search and rescue efforts were ongoing, with teams working tirelessly to locate missing individuals. The President of the Rezevi Khorasan Red Crescent, Muhsin Zakiriyan, reported that 12 people were currently missing as a result of the flood.

In the aftermath of the natural disaster, Mashhad District Governor Muhsin Daveri revealed that around 250 families impacted by the flood had been relocated to safer areas within the city and surrounding villages. Approximately 150 houses had sustained damage due to the flood, with affected residents being evacuated and some structures already undergoing cleaning procedures.

Images shared on social media depicted the widespread impact of the flood, showing closed roads, submerged vehicles, and citizens attempting to rescue their cars from the rising waters. The community of Mashhad faces a challenging period of recovery and rebuilding in the wake of this tragic event.
