Seven People Killed in Texas Accident Involving SUV and Irregular Migrants
Tragedy struck in Brownsville, Texas as an SUV-type vehicle collided with irregular migrants waiting at a bus stop across from a shelter. According to Brownsville Police Superintendent Martin Sandoval, the accident occurred in the morning, resulting in the death of seven people at the scene, while six others were injured.
Videos shared by eyewitnesses on social media revealed how the SUV vehicle was speeding towards the people waiting on the side of the road, with the victims hit by the vehicle thrown in the air for meters. The police subsequently handcuffed the Hispanic driver and placed him in their vehicle.
Most of the people hit by the vehicle were irregular immigrants coming from Venezuela and were crossing the US border. The incident has caused widespread shock and grief in the region.
Fatal motor accidents involving migrants are not uncommon in the area as the crisis at the southern US border continues to worsen. As more and more people, fleeing from violence, hunger, poverty, and political instability, seek refuge in the US, concern for their safety is of paramount importance. Authorities have yet to release further details on the accident.
