Sakarya Prosecutor’s Office investigates suspects exploiting religious feelings and committing fraud

The Sakarya Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has kicked off an investigation into individuals who have been engaging in fraudulent activities on social media platforms by making false psychic and murmurism claims while taking advantage of people’s religious beliefs.

As part of the investigative efforts, the Provincial Police Department Cyber Crimes Branch Directorate took action and carried out a series of operations. A total of 28 individuals from Sakarya, Şanlıurfa, Mersin, Kayseri, Yozgat, Ankara, Antalya, Izmir, Bursa, Istanbul, Manisa, and Eskişehir were detained during the raids.

The suspects, who set up fake accounts on social media, lured victims in with promises of breaking curses, casting spells, and resolving various family issues. Exploiting the religious sentiments of their targets, the fraudsters demanded exorbitant sums of money, succeeding in defrauding a total of 87 million Turkish Liras.

As the legal proceedings against the suspects continue, there is a possibility of further expanding the operation to bring more perpetrators to justice.
