9 People Detained for Reacting to IETT Bringing Minibuses to the Islands
Despite the objections and protests of citizens, IETT took a minibus to Büyükada today. Nine citizens who stood in front of the minibuses and protested were detained.
Riot police intervened against the citizens who tried to prevent the passage of minibuses they called “Azmanbüs”. The 9 people who protested were taken into custody.
In a statement by the Heybeliada Neighborhood Council Initiative, it was mentioned that IETT brought minibuses to Büyükada despite the objections of the islanders and promises made by the authorities. The council expressed their concerns about the increase in traffic accidents on the islands and their opposition to having minibuses there. They stated, “We will protect the forest from the mafia and the pedestrian road from traffic.”
The protest against the introduction of minibuses to Büyükada continues as citizens voice their displeasure over the decision.
