95th Annual Book Week to Feature 170 Exhibitors on 150 Stands

The 95th Annual Book Week in Budapest is set to be a grand celebration of literature, with 170 exhibitors, 150 stands, and over a thousand book signings. Taking place from June 13 to 16 at Vörösmarty and Vigadó squares in Budapest and on the Danube embankment, this event promises to be a haven for book lovers.
The festivities will kick off on June 13 with linguist, poet, and literary translator Ádám Nádasdy, followed by a procession by the Fire Brigade Orchestra into Vörösmarty Square. The day will also include toasts and the presentation of the Beautiful Hungarian Book 2023 award.
President of the Association of Hungarian Publishers and Book Distributors (MKKE), Katalin Gál, expressed excitement over the numerous exhibitors and their plans for promotions and new book releases. She emphasized that hundreds of new books will be launched during Book Week, including a significant number of poetry, fiction, children’s, and youth literature books.
Gál highlighted the mission of the MKKE to promote reading as a universal activity accessible to all. She stressed the importance of parents reading to young children and debunked the myth that people, especially youth, no longer read.
The winners of the Beautiful Hungarian Book 2023 competition were also announced, with notable books such as “Walking Books” from Athenaeum Publishing, “Silk Light” by BOOKART Publishing, and “The Tram” by Pagony Publishing taking top honors in their respective categories. The competition showcased the talent and dedication of Hungarian publishers and designers in creating aesthetically pleasing and engaging books.
Book Week is a time to celebrate the written word and appreciate the beauty of literature. With a focus on inclusivity and creativity, this year’s event promises to be a memorable experience for all who attend.
