A Hope for Liberation on Human Rights Day
Turkish Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Numan Kurtulmuş has delivered a strong message on the occasion of World Human Rights Day. In a social media post, Kurtulmuş emphasized the importance of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on December 10, 1948.
Kurtulmuş reflected on the 75 years that have passed since the adoption of the declaration, highlighting the global failures in upholding human rights. He pointed to current conflicts in places like Gaza, Iraq, Syria, and Srebrenica as evidence that humanity and human rights are in peril.
The deputy minister also stressed the need for world states to fulfill their responsibilities in ensuring universal human rights. He called for equal protection and coverage for all individuals, noting the unsustainable nature of a world order where some are more equal than others.
Kurtulmuş also addressed growing global problems such as wars, migrations, xenophobia, racism, violence, and rights violations, asserting that the restructuring of existing institutions has become a necessity. He expressed Turkey’s readiness to take the initiative and lead in shaping the future of humanity.
