Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi Re-elected for Third Term

Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has secured his position as Egypt’s president for a third consecutive term, as reported by Euronews. The National Election Commission announced that 89.6% of voters showed their support for al-Sisi, with the second-place contender, Hazem Omar of the Republican People’s Party, receiving 4.5% of the vote.

The voter turnout for the election stood at 66.8%. Other candidates vying for the presidency included Farid Zahran of the Egyptian Social Democratic Party and Abdel Sanad Yamama, the chairman of the Wafd party.

Al-Sisi, who assumed office as President of Egypt in 2014 after serving as the head of the ministry, also saw success in the 2018 presidential election, where he garnered 97% of the vote.

In 2019, Egypt implemented constitutional amendments that extended the presidential term from four to six years, allowing al-Sisi to continue his presidency. The amendments also paved the way for his participation in the recent presidential elections.

This re-election solidifies al-Sisi’s continued leadership in Egypt as he looks towards the future of the country.
