Adnan Oktar Restricts Lawyer Meetings: A New Development
Adnan Oktar, a Turkish religious leader who has been imprisoned since 2018 on charges of leading a criminal organization, will no longer be able to engage in activities other than attorneyship during his lawyer meetings. This decision was made by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, which requested that the meetings be limited in order to prevent Oktar’s organization from continuing its activities through his lawyers.
According to the Istanbul 4th Criminal Court of Peace, Oktar had approximately 290 lawyer meetings in one month, with different lawyers being met every 10 minutes on the same day. The court noted that this was less about exercising his right to defense and more about keeping his organization alive through the lawyers he was meeting.
As a result of the decision, the days or hours of Oktar’s lawyer meetings can now be limited. The officers can also be present during the meetings between Oktar and his lawyers to watch the conversations and confiscate any documents or records that they may have exchanged. Additionally, the meetings can be recorded with audio or video for a period of three months.
Adnan Oktar, also known as Harun Yahya, has been a controversial figure in Turkey for years. He has been accused of various crimes, including sexual assault, fraud, and forming and leading a criminal organization. His organization has also been accused of brainwashing young people and engaging in illegal activities.
