Advancing Economic Projects in Afghanistan: Moving from Planning to Action
Economic projects in participation of Afghanistan move forward to practical implementation
On 11 September 2024, significant progress was made in the practical implementation of large-scale energy, transport, and infrastructure international projects involving Turkmenistan and Afghanistan at the Turkmen-Afghan border.
The National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, personally participated in the events.
In the morning, the National Leader arrived at the border checkpoint “Islim-Cheshme” in Serhetabat town of Tahtabazar province in the Mary region, where he was welcomed by key officials.
Shortly after, Acting Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Afghanistan, Mullah Mohammad Hasan Akhund, also arrived at the location. Following noble Turkmen traditions, bread and salt were offered to the Afghan guest.
Subsequently, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held a meeting with the Acting Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Afghanistan in the conference hall built at the “Islim-Cheshme” checkpoint.
After friendly discussions, the parties participated in several ceremonies, including the opening of the railway bridge of the Serhetabat-Turgundi railroad, the foundation laying of the “Shatlyk-1” gas compressor station in the Mary region, and the launch of construction for the Serhetabat-Herat section. These projects are crucial components of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India Transnational Gas Pipeline Project (TAPI) and the Serhetabat-Herat fiber-optic communication line, known as “Arkadagyň Ak ýoly” (Bright Path of Arkadag).
Additionally, the events encompassed the initiation of construction for a warehouse complex in the “dry port” of the Turgundi railway station, the Turgundi-Sanabar section of the first phase of the Turgundi-Herat railway, and the commissioning of the “Nur-el-Jahad” power plant in the Herat province of Afghanistan as part of the first phase of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) power transmission line project.
President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov addressed the participants via video conferencing, emphasizing Turkmenistan’s active role in global efforts to achieve Sustainable Development Goals.
These developments underscore Turkmenistan’s dedication to fostering a modern energy security framework and sustainable transport for regional and international economic advancement.
