The budget of the Ministry of Agriculture is at the center of discussions as the Economy, Finance, Budget, and Planning Committee delves into its details. CTP Deputy Fikri Toros emphasized the significance of agriculture, linking it to industry, trade, hygiene, health, and employment. He expressed concern over the lack of agricultural production plans due to changing governments and bureaucrats, emphasizing the need for direct support, incentives, purchase guarantee, and insurance to ensure the safety of producers.
Toros emphasized the need for standardization and international cooperation, particularly in tackling agricultural challenges and adhering to global standards. He also highlighted the potential for economic growth if producers can invest in technology and quality products, urging against undermining these opportunities. Additionally, Toros commended the successful collaboration between the Ministry of Agriculture and the EU Union in the fight against animal diseases, while also addressing the issue of meat smuggling.
Deputy Chairman Erkut Şahali raised concerns over budget anomalies within the Soil Products Corporation and questioned unresolved issues within the Ministry of Agriculture. He criticized the delayed Direct Income Support payments and expressed doubt about the Department of Agriculture’s training initiatives, particularly in food safety and livestock activities. Şahali also highlighted concerns regarding the State Farm and Agricultural Research Institute, as well as the activities of the Forestry Department, signaling the need for greater transparency and accountability within these areas of the agriculture sector.
