Revolutionizing Healthcare: The Development of the Great Language Model by the NII
Researchers from the National Information Institute (NII) have made significant strides in artificial intelligence with the creation of the ‘Great Language Model’ (LLM) class system. This innovative AI has been meticulously trained on an extensive dataset, drawing from 16 million documents sourced from popular medical websites and authoritative textbooks, including over 700,000 licensed medical articles.
One of the defining achievements of this new system is its impressive performance on the National Medical License Exam, where it surpassed the success threshold and achieved one of the highest scores among globally developed LLMs. This milestone reflects not just the model’s advanced capabilities, but also its potential impact on the medical field.
The collaborative effort involved approximately 40 organizations, including universities, research institutes, and private companies, which have come together to harness the power of this AI. They aim to use the model to propose potential diagnoses based on preliminary examination results, enhancing decision-making in clinical settings.
As part of the NII’s project, the Great Language Model is intended to support clinical treatment and improve operational efficiency.
