AIFC Court and International Arbitration Centre Expands to China
The Astana International Financial Centre’s (AIFC) Court and International Arbitration Centre (IAC) have expanded their reach by launching a new office in Beijing, China. The office, located at the Executive Center in the prestigious China World Tower, aims to provide convenient dispute resolution services for Chinese investors in Kazakhstan.
Equipped with modern meeting rooms, hearing rooms, administrative support, and digital technology, the new office will cater to the needs of Chinese investors seeking legal protection in their home country. This initiative is part of the AIFC Court and IAC’s efforts to enhance their presence in China and strengthen their position as the preferred dispute resolution institutions in Eurasia.
The launch of the Beijing office followed a visit by Christopher Campbell-Holt, the registrar and chief executive of the AIFC Court and IAC, to China. During his visit, Campbell-Holt attended the China Overseas Development Association (CODA) conference and engaged with dispute resolution partners, senior lawyers, and businesspeople involved in or planning business activities in Kazakhstan.
A cooperation agreement was reached with CODA to further promote the AIFC Court and IAC as the go-to dispute resolution institutions for Chinese investors in Kazakhstan. Campbell-Holt expressed his delight at the launch of the new office and highlighted the importance of supporting Chinese businesses investing in Kazakhstan.
Since their establishment on January 1, 2018, the AIFC Court and IAC have successfully resolved over 2,600 cases to the satisfaction of all parties involved, including Chinese investors. With a significant number of business contracts designating the AIFC Court and IAC for dispute resolution, the trend of Chinese investments in Kazakhstan is expected to continue, paving the way for further collaborations and economic growth between the two countries.
