Condemnation of Violence: AK Party Leaders Respond to Attack on CHP Chairman
In the wake of a violent incident involving the Chairman of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), Özgür Özel, AK Party Deputy Chairman Ala issued a strong statement condemning the attack during a commemoration ceremony at the Atatürk Cultural Center. Relaying his thoughts on social media, Ala expressed his heartfelt wishes for Özel’s swift recovery, labeling the aggression as "ugly."
Other prominent AK Party figures joined in the condemnation. Deputy Chairman Mustafa Elitaş firmly rejected all forms of violence in political discourse, emphasizing the need for reconciliation and effective communication. Elitaş highlighted that any negative attack should be universally condemned.
Kürşad Zorlu, another deputy chairman, reiterated the party’s stance against violence in politics, noting the prompt detention of the attacker by security forces. He emphasized that such acts disrupt social peace and have no place within a democratic society.
Faruk Acar, also of the AK Party, echoed this sentiment, firmly declaring that violence has no place in democratic governance. He stated that attacks like these undermine the very foundations of society.
Hayati Yazıcı condemned the attack, reaffirming that violence cannot be justified as a method of expressing political dissent. He insisted that such actions will not be tolerated and underscored the importance of upholding democratic values.
Zafer Sırakaya also weighed in, stating that the attack on Özel was not just an assault on a political figure but an affront to the will and values of the nation. He steadfastly supported the resilience of democracy in the face of such threats.
In a joint response, other AK Party officials, including Ahmet Büyükgümüş and Mustafa Demir, made clear that all violent acts aimed at disrupting social harmony will be met with legal action. The need for unity and brotherhood in the nation was a focal point in their comments, with Demir stressing that political discourse should remain free of violence.
As the political community rallies around Özgür Özel during this troubling time, the collective message is clear: violence is an unacceptable tactic in the political arena, and all parties must work together to foster a respectful and peaceful discourse.
