AK Party Spokesman Çelik Responds to İmamoğlu and Yavaş
Turkey’s ruling party, AK Party, has emerged victorious in the first round of local elections. According to Ömer Çelik, with a clear lead, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan finished the election. The opposition displayed “anti-democratic reflexes”, he said, adding that the People’s Alliance and AK Party gained a majority in the Assembly. Regardless of party, the sensitivity of citizens was “remarkable” in terms of giving importance to democratic values. This support for President Erdogan shows he has set a new record in his political life, Çelik added. Although Turkey’s President is in the lead, no statements will be made about the outcome until the final results are declared, out of respect for the national will, he said. The second round of elections is scheduled for 31 March.
