AK Party to hold workshop to address decline in fertility rate in Turkey

AK Party’s Social Policies Vice President, Hakkı Öztürk, announced that a workshop will be organized to address the decline in the fertility rate in Turkey. The decision to hold the workshop came after data from TUIK revealed that the total fertility rate in Turkey is projected to decrease from 2.38 in 2001 to 1.51 children in 2023.

The workshop, scheduled for July 2, will be attended by Social Policies President Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya and academicians. The main focus of the workshop will be to discuss suggestions to combat the decline in population growth and present them to the Ministry of Family and Social Services.

Öztürk emphasized that they have prepared short, medium, and long-term “solution packages” covering various topics with a multidisciplinary approach, including economic, cultural, and political dimensions.

“There are three main topics that we will focus on during the workshop, including maternity leave extension, financial support for childcare, and incentives for larger families,” Öztürk stated.

He highlighted that the decline in population growth is a global issue and that they are studying successful strategies implemented by other countries to address the problem.

By implementing measures tailored to Turkey’s culture and traditions, Öztürk stated that the goal is to preserve and increase the young and educated population, leading towards the creation of a demographic opportunity window for a greater Turkey.
