Akkuyu NPP Aims to Commission All 4 Reactors by 2028

Minister Bayraktar Inspects Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant, Highlights Turkey’s Energy Goals
Minister Bayraktar recently visited the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant in Mersin to inspect the progress of the construction site. With 4 reactors being built simultaneously, it is currently the largest nuclear power plant construction site in the world, employing over 30 thousand workers. Minister Bayraktar emphasized the significant contribution the plant makes to Turkey’s employment.
“It will meet 10 percent of our electricity needs on its own,” Minister Bayraktar stated, highlighting the importance of Akkuyu for Turkey’s energy supply security and climate goals. The aim is to have all four reactors fully commissioned by 2028 to meet a significant portion of Turkey’s electricity needs.
Minister Bayraktar pointed out that the clean, carbon-free energy produced from Akkuyu will reduce 30 million tons of carbon emissions, marking the realization of Turkey’s 70-year dream. Despite the challenges faced during the construction, he expressed determination to reach the target of 20 thousand megawatts in nuclear energy by 2050.
The Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant project symbolizes Turkey’s commitment to clean energy sources and supply security. Under the leadership of President, the country strives to achieve its energy goals and looks forward to a sustainable future.
