AKOM Warns of 90% Traffic Gridlock in Istanbul

AKOM Issues Warning for Strong Wind and Rain in Istanbul
The city of Istanbul is bracing for a strong wind and heavy rain, as the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (AKOM) has issued a warning for a storm expected to hit the city. According to a statement released on AKOM’s social media account, the wind is expected to become stronger tomorrow at noon and blow in the form of a storm with short bursts. Short-term showers are also anticipated to accompany the wind, and the storm is expected to be effective until Saturday evening.

In light of this forecast, citizens are urged to exercise caution and be careful against potential negativities. The warning from AKOM comes as heavy rain has already begun in Istanbul, with its effect increasing as the evening approaches. The downpour has led to long queues of vehicles on the roads, causing traffic density to reach 86 percent as of 17.15, according to the map of IMM.

The Istanbul Governorship has also issued a warning in line with the information received from Meteorology, urging citizens to be careful and cautious as the wind is expected to blow generally as a storm from noon onwards on Saturday. The sudden heavy rain and wind in areas like Taksim have caught many residents off guard, leading to difficulties in improvising protection against the elements.

Some citizens resorted to using umbrellas, while others sought shelter under shops and buildings. Unfortunately, the strength of the wind caused some umbrellas to break, leaving citizens exposed to the heavy rain. These moments were captured on camera, depicting the challenges faced by citizens in the midst of the stormy weather.

As the storm continues to affect Istanbul, citizens are advised to stay informed of the latest updates and warnings while taking necessary precautions to ensure their safety during this period of inclement weather.
