AKP and CHP each win a seat in Erzincan deputy elections

Erzincan, a city located in northeastern Turkey, recently held elections to elect its 28th term deputies. Out of the 174,968 voters, 158,693 cast their votes, with 156,098 being counted as valid. The unofficial results declared the AK Party as the winner with 60,360 votes, followed by the CHP with 56,094 votes, the MHP with 30,661 votes, the Green Left Party with 2,068 votes, and the Welfare Again Party with 2,262 votes. As per these results, Suleyman Karaman from the AK Party and Mustafa Sarigul from the CHP became the elected deputies for Erzincan’s 28th term.

Suleyman Karaman, born in 1956 in Alamcayir Village of Refahiye district, graduated from Istanbul Technical University (ITU) Mechanical Engineering Faculty in 1978. He later received a master’s degree from ITU and completed his doctoral studies in 1984 while also serving as a research assistant. Karaman served in various organizations, including the automotive sub-industry, IETT, ISFALT, ISBAK, İSTON, İSMER and BELTUR, which are all associated with the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. Karaman was appointed General Manager and Chairman of the Board of Directors of TCDD Enterprise on December 31, 2002, and contributed to the realization of more than 100 railway projects, including the high-speed train project.

Mustafa Sarigul, born in 1956 in Gungeren Village of Ilic district, completed his education at Marmara University Faculty of Education and worked at various organizations, including Kağıthane Municipality, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, and IETT general directorate. Sarigul, who started his political career in the CHP, served as a Provincial Vice President, District President, Youth Branch Executive Board Chairman, among others. He became a Member of Parliament for the 18th term in 1987, a Mayor of Sisli Municipality in 1999, and a CHP Congress Delegate. After being expelled from the CHP, he joined the DSP and later founded the Turkey Change Movement Party.

Overall, the election in Erzincan saw the AK Party’s Suleyman Karaman and the CHP’s Mustafa Sarigul emerge as the elected deputies for the 28th term.
