Algeria Deports 12 French Diplomats in Diplomatic Row

Algeria-France Relations Strained Over Diplomatic Crisis
Tensions have escalated between Algeria and France following a recent deportation decision made by Algerian authorities. French Minister Barrot has called on Algerian officials to reconsider their decision, warning of immediate consequences if the deportation is carried out.
The diplomatic crisis stems from the detention of three Algerian individuals in France, one of whom is a consulate officer. These individuals are accused of involvement in the abduction of Amir Boukhors, a prominent Algerian social media figure known as “Amir DZ” who has been critical of the Algerian government.
Algeria views the actions of the French judiciary as an attempt to undermine recent efforts to normalize relations between the two countries. Boukhors, who has over a million followers on TikTok, was granted asylum in France in 2023 but was kidnapped in April 2024. He was released the following day.
Algeria is demanding the return of Boukhors for trial, citing charges of fraud and terrorism. The Algerian government has issued nine international arrest warrants in connection with the case.
The dispute has put a strain on the already tense relationship between Algeria and France, with both sides standing firm in their positions. The future of bilateral relations remains uncertain as both countries navigate this challenging diplomatic situation.
