Almaty International Airport Set for Major Upgrades with $362 Million Investment
ASTANA – In a significant boost to infrastructure development, TAV Holding, a prominent Turkish airport operations company, has announced plans to invest an additional $362 million in Almaty International Airport. This investment will be directed toward the construction of a new 53,500-square-meter terminal, scheduled to be commissioned in June 2024. The announcement was made by the Kazakh Transport Ministry on May 6.
The funding will facilitate extensive upgrades to the airport’s facilities, including the reconstruction of the runway, the construction of a new apron dedicated to cargo transport, and the renovation of the domestic terminal. Furthermore, the project aims to modernize and digitize existing cargo warehouses and construct an airport hotel, thereby enhancing the overall operational efficiency of the airport.
In a collaborative effort, the ministry and Almaty International Airport have formalized their commitment through a memorandum of cooperation, detailing the investment framework, project timeline, and pivotal initiatives for the airport’s evolution. A notable aspect of this agreement is its focus on improving working conditions for airport personnel.
As part of the investment strategy, TAV Holding plans to increase employee salaries by an average of 25% over the next year. The investment will also lead to the construction of a new medical center on the airport premises to serve both employees and local residents. Additionally, the project is expected to create at least 600 new job opportunities at the airport this year alone.
In a bid to enhance staffing capabilities, an accredited training center, certified by Airports Council International (ACI), will be established on-site. Efforts to improve employee welfare are already in motion, with separate staff canteens successfully organized.
This substantial financial commitment signifies a vision for growth and modernization at Almaty International Airport, aiming to elevate its status as a key transportation hub in the region.
