Almaty Preparatory Camp for Google Solution Challenge Begins

The Google Solution Challenge Camp is currently taking place at De Montfort University Kazakhstan (DMUK) in Almaty. This camp aims to prepare technologists for a global IT project competition. Google Solution Challenge is a yearly initiative that encourages the use of Google technologies to solve issues related to the United Nations’ (UN) 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The camp is organized by Google Developer Groups (GDG) Cloud Almaty, an independent group of software developers and startup community supported by Google. Its main purpose is to help startups and developers from Central Asian countries, Mongolia, Türkiye, and Azerbaijan to build their products and businesses using the best of Google tools and gear up for the Google Solution Challenge.
According to GDG Almaty Community Manager Askar Aituov, three projects from Central Asia made it to the Solution Challenge’s global top 100 short-list, with one team showcasing their work at the final demo day.
The camp, apart from offering networking opportunities for the tech community, focuses on detailed counseling about SDGs and the smart use of artificial intelligence (AI) in IT projects. It also includes special workshops and training sessions to help developers with the problem statement and their approach in choosing SDGs.
During the event series, participants have showcased their capabilities in building AI prototypes. For instance, an expert developed a trip planner app in 30 minutes using Google’s PaLM API. Additionally, this May, two teams from Kazakhstan entered the top 100 in the global Google Solution Challenge hackathon – the BeJomart project for people in need and the ReVita project for patients recovering after organ transplantation.
The camp offers a great opportunity for tech enthusiasts to enhance their skills and create solutions that contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals.
