Almaty Set to Host Major Mining and Metallurgical Exhibition
A major event showcasing Kazakhstan’s thriving mining and metallurgical sector will be taking place in Almaty from September 17-19. The Mining & Metals Central Asia 2024 exhibition will highlight the significant contributions of this industry to the country’s economy, accounting for over 12% of the GDP.
Organized by ITECA Kazakhstan exhibition company, the exhibition will provide a platform for dialogue among industry stakeholders. Various conferences, roundtables, and seminars will discuss key topics such as global environmental, social, and governance (ESG) trends impacting the mining industry in Kazakhstan. Participants can expect discussions on regulatory changes, new technologies, cybersecurity, and increased domestic content.
Over 400 companies from 34 countries will be participating in the exhibition, showcasing the latest advancements in mining and metallurgical technologies. Exhibitors from countries like Australia, Canada, China, and the United States will present innovations in mining equipment, processing technologies, and digital solutions. Special national stands by entrepreneurs from China, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Türkiye will feature around 80 units of special equipment at the outdoor exposition.
According to ITECA, Kazakhstan boasts substantial reserves of iron ore and copper, making it a key player in the global mining industry. The country’s metal ore extraction has seen significant growth in recent years, reaching over 3.88 trillion tenge (US$8.07 billion) in 2023. This growth has not only boosted the country’s GDP but also led to the creation of thousands of permanent jobs.
The sector is currently undergoing significant expansion, with 40 new projects launched this year alone. Investments exceeding 570 billion tenge (US$1.185 billion) have been allocated for these projects, contributing to the creation of over 7,000 jobs. By the end of the year, Kazakhstan aims to implement up to 180 projects with investments totaling 1.4 trillion tenge (US$2.9 billion). With over 200,000 specialists employed in the sector, the mining and metallurgical industry continues to play a crucial role in the country’s labor market and economic development.
