Turkish Astronaut Alper Gezeravcı Appointed to Turkish Space Agency Board of Directors

The appointment of Alper Gezeravcı, the first Turkish astronaut, as a member of the Board of Directors of the Turkish Space Agency has been officially confirmed. The decision, signed by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, also included the appointments of Arif Güzel, Mustafa Arif Karabeyoğlu, Elvan Kuzucu Hıdır, Mustafa Mehmet Nefes, and İsmail Doğan as board members.

President Erdoğan himself received Alper Gezeravcı and his family at Esenboğa Airport, where he presented Gezeravcı with a watch as a gift. In return, Gezeravcı gave President Erdoğan the Turkish flag that he had with him during his 18-day stay on the International Space Station (ISS), as well as a scarf bearing the words “Turkey’s first manned space mission.”

The reception was attended by President Erdoğan’s wife Emine Erdoğan, Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır, TÜBİTAK President Hasan Mandal, and Turkish Space Agency (TUA) President Yusuf Kıraç.
