American Professor Collaborates with EMU Architecture Students
EMU Faculty of Architecture Hosts Renowned Architect and Academician for “Design and Build” Workshop
The Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Faculty of Architecture, Interdisciplinary Studies in the Built Environment Research Center (ISBE) is set to host architect and academician Prof. Dr. Charlie Hailey from the University of Florida for a special workshop titled “Design and Build.” The workshop aims to bring multidisciplinary approaches to the built environment and provide a unique design-implement experience for students.
Prof. Dr. Charlie Hailey, a recipient of numerous awards, including “Teacher/Scientist of the Year,” and the author of six important books, will be the first Fulbright Scholar to visit Cyprus in 15 years. As part of the workshop, Prof. Dr. Hailey will collaborate with EMU students to design an “outdoor learning module” for ecological literacy. The designed module will be built in partnership with the students and donated to Yeniboğaziçi Primary School as part of the faculty’s social responsibility mission.
The project, titled “Experiential Learning: Design for the Public Interest,” written by Ceren Boğaç on behalf of the ISBE Center, has been accepted by the United States (USA) Fulbright Specialist Program. The workshop, scheduled to take place between 4-14 December, aims to provide students of the Faculty of Architecture with an exceptional learning experience.
The workshop is expected to be a valuable opportunity for students to work closely with a renowned academician and gain insight into the practical aspects of design and construction. The collaboration with Prof. Dr. Charlie Hailey and the opportunity to contribute to a community project aligns with the faculty’s commitment to fostering social responsibility and experiential learning. Students are eager to participate in the workshop and gain hands-on experience in designing for the public interest.
