Anau, Turkmenistan: The Designated Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2024
The 40th meeting of the Permanent Council of Ministers of Culture of the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY) is scheduled to take place on October 13-14, 2023, in Shusha, Azerbaijan. Shusha, being the cultural capital of the Turkic world in 2023, will host the event. The meeting will involve the participation of Ministers of Culture from the six founding countries of TURKSOY, namely Turkey, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, as reported by Report.
During the meeting, TURKSOY’s activities will be discussed, plans for 2024 will be unveiled, and relevant decisions will be made. Additionally, the title of “Cultural Capital of the Turkic World” for 2024 will be transferred to the Turkmen city of Anau.
In preparation for the upcoming year, a cultural event plan is being developed for Anau. The plan includes participation from creative teams and delegations from various states. The proposed activities encompass scientific, youth, and media forums, concerts featuring popular pop artists and folk performers, exhibitions showcasing fine and decorative arts, photo exhibitions, and much more. Traditional creative events under the auspices of TURKSOY will also take place in Anau.
Furthermore, during a meeting held in Bursa, Turkey, in 2022, the national commissions for UNESCO of TURKSOY member countries unanimously declared 2024 as “The Year of the great poet and thinker of the Turkic world – Magtymguly Pyragy” to commemorate his 300th anniversary.
