Ankara Teachers Receive “Media Literacy” Training

Media literacy training has recently begun for a group of teachers in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) in Ankara. This training program, organized in cooperation with the High Council of Broadcasting (YYK) and the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK), aims to enhance the teachers’ knowledge in the field of publishing.

A written statement by the YYK Press Office revealed that the 3-day training program offers teachers the opportunity to expand their understanding of media literacy. Led by YYK Board of Directors members Yasemin Saban and Hüseyin Gürlek, an 11-person teacher delegation was hosted by RTÜK President Ebubekir Şahin during their visit to Ankara. The meeting was also attended by RTÜK Member Deniz Güçer and RTÜK Deputy Chairman Deniz Güler.

Throughout the training program, teachers will receive presentations on media literacy from RTÜK Human Resources and Education Department managers. By increasing their knowledge in the field of publishing, teachers will be equipped to educate students on how to consume media responsibly and make informed decisions about their screen time.

During the training in Ankara, YYK Members Yasemin Saban and Hüseyin Gürlek expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to learn from RTÜK’s experiences. The collaboration between YYK and RTÜK underscores the importance of promoting media literacy among educators and students in TRNC.
