Turkey’s Inflation Data: April Update
Today, the Turkish Statistical Institute is set to release the latest inflation figures for April, building on the significant changes observed in the preceding months.
In March, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) saw a monthly increase of 2.46%, while the Domestic Producer Price Index (Yi-PPI) rose by 1.88%. Year-on-year, inflation rates stood at 38.1% for consumer prices and 23.5% for domestic producer prices, highlighting ongoing economic pressures.
According to the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT), annual inflation expectations among market participants have risen by 1.0 percentage points, now estimated at 41.7%. Meanwhile, a significant portion of the population, approximately 59.3%, remains skeptical about inflation trends, maintaining their expectations steady.
Interestingly, the sentiment among households regarding inflation appears to be easing, with expectations declining by 4.1 percentage points to 27.2% over the past month.
Reflecting further on previous months, the Consumer Price Index recorded increases of 5.03% in January, followed by 2.27% in February, and finally 2.46% in March, indicating a persistent upward trajectory in prices.
