
April Inflation Hits 4.06% Amid Soaring Melon and Lottery Ticket Prices

TRNC Reports Inflation Rate at 4.06% for April
The TRNC Statistical Institute has announced that the inflation rate for April stands at 4.06%. This figure is based on the Consumer Prices General Index, which indicates a significant annual increase of 40.96% compared to the same month last year and a rise of 13.08% since December.
Among the goods that experienced the highest price increases, melons topped the list with a staggering 60.25% hike. National lottery tickets also saw a notable surge, increasing by 60%, followed by the TRNC State Lottery tickets, which rose by 50%.
On the other hand, certain items experienced significant price drops. Cucumbers led with a decline of 67.26%, followed by purslane at 43.88% and strawberries at 40.21%.
Looking at the main expenditure groups, the restaurant and hotel sector reported the highest monthly increase at 9.51%. Other notable increases included:
- Housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels: 5%
- Furniture, household appliances, and home care services: 4.40%
- Entertainment and culture: 3.86%
- Health: 3.54%
- Food and non-alcoholic beverages: 3.20%
- Transportation: 3.16%
- Clothing and shoes: 2.60%
- Various goods and services: 2.47%
- Communication: 2.29%
- Education: 1.94%
- Alcoholic beverages and tobacco: 1.26%
In contrast, the average prices of 71 out of the 455 items included in the index saw a decrease compared to last month, indicating mixed trends in consumer pricing.
The data emphasizes ongoing economic fluctuations within the TRNC, highlighting significant variances in price changes across different sectors and goods.
