Arab Countries Vow Continued Support for Syrian People After Overthrow of Assad Regime

Arab countries have confirmed their commitment to supporting the Syrian people following the overthrow of the Assad regime by Syrian groups on December 8. The decision was made at a Syria meeting of the Arab Liaison Committee held in Riyadh, where the latest developments in Syria and ways to assist the Syrian people were discussed under the leadership of Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan.

According to the statement issued by the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 11 countries, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain, Jordan, Syria, Iraq, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, and Lebanon, participated in the meeting. Secretary Generals from the Arab League and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) were also in attendance.

During the meeting, messages of support and solidarity were delivered by various officials. Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohammed bin Abdurrahman Al Thani, emphasized Qatar’s full support for the unity of the Syrian people. He expressed solidarity with the Syrian people during this critical phase of rebuilding their nation.

UAE’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nayhan, stressed the importance of Syrian unity in establishing a united, stable, and secure Syria free from terrorism and exclusion.

The Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi highlighted the positive spirit of cooperation and common responsibility demonstrated at the meeting in Riyadh in supporting Syria and promoting peace and stability in the region.

Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Badr Abdullati, reiterated Egypt’s unwavering support for the Syrian people and their legitimate demands. He called for a comprehensive political process to ensure Syria’s stability in the region.

Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan called for the lifting of unilateral and international sanctions against Syria in his statement during the meeting.

The Arab countries’ commitment to supporting the Syrian people signals a unified effort to assist in the country’s reconstruction and stabilization following the overthrow of the Assad regime.
