Ardahan Chills to Minus 20 Degrees Overnight
Residents of Göle, a district in Ardahan known for its extreme cold temperatures during the winter, faced a unique challenge this spring. Despite the arrival of March, typically a month associated with the beginning of warmer weather, the residents found themselves cutting ice instead of enjoying milder temperatures.
With thermometers plummeting to as low as minus 20 degrees at night, Göle experienced a phenomenon not commonly seen in other parts of Türkiye. Ice stalagmites formed on rooftops, creating a picturesque yet treacherous landscape for locals. Roads and sidewalks became perilous as they were covered in a thick layer of ice, making everyday tasks such as commuting to work a daunting ordeal.
As residents braved the cold to navigate their daily routines, it became evident that Göle’s reputation as one of the coldest settlements in the region was well-deserved. Despite the onset of spring, the district continued to grapple with freezing temperatures, serving as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of Mother Nature.
