Severe Rainfall Causes Road Closures and Evacuations in Artvin
Artvin, a coastal area in Turkey, has been subjected to heavy rainfall since yesterday afternoon, leading to the closure of 32 village roads in the region. Specifically, 18 roads in Arhavi, 8 in Borçka, and 6 in Hopa have been affected by the heavy rains. In response to this situation, the Provincial Special Administration, Highways, DSİ Regional Directorate, and district municipality teams have swiftly initiated efforts to reopen the closed roads.
The impact of the heavy rainfall on the Arhavi district has been particularly severe. Residents of an industrial site and a student dormitory near the Kapisre Stream, which flows through the Arhavi district center and poses a flood risk during heavy rain, were evacuated as a precautionary measure. Additionally, the group road leading to the villages of Arhavi district collapsed at Mehmet Nazif Günal Street in the Kale neighborhood. Highways teams are currently working to restore the road and resume traffic flow in the area.
