Minister Arıklı Breaks Ground on New Yonca Junction Project
Minister of Public Works and Transport Erhan Arıklı recently presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for the Yonca Junction, a new multi-level junction project set to be built at the intersection of the Nicosia Northern Ring Road and the Nicosia Kyrenia Main Road. Arıklı expressed that this new project will greatly alleviate traffic congestion at the Gönyeli Roundabout, with an expected completion date set for April.
The ceremony was attended by various government officials, including the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Turkey, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu. The event commenced with the National Anthem and a moment of silence, followed by speeches from key figures such as General Director of the Highways Department Ahmet Gülşen, Minister Arıklı, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, and President Ersin Tatar.
In his remarks, Minister Arıklı emphasized the importance of the Nicosia Northern Ring Road project in improving traffic flow within the capital city and the country as a whole. He expressed gratitude to the Development and Economic Cooperation Office of the Republic of Turkey (BSEC) and the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Nicosia for their support in this endeavor, particularly in facilitating the expropriation process for the project.
Arıklı underscored the longstanding support of the Republic of Turkey for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and highlighted the collaboration between the two nations in infrastructure development. He urged Turkish Cypriots to view their relationship with Turkey as one of sacrifice rather than mere gratitude.
With the completion of the Yonca Junction project, Minister Arıklı confidently stated that traffic congestion at the Gönyeli Circle will be a thing of the past. He expressed optimism that the project would be finalized by April, bringing much-needed relief to commuters in the area.
In conclusion, Minister Arıklı extended his appreciation to key individuals and organizations involved in the project, including former Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey Metin Feyzioğlu, current Ambassador Yasin Ekrem Serim, BSEC Office Coordinator Erol Öz, and Ministry Undersecretary Enver Öztürk.
