Arıklı urges continuous improvement in earthquake infrastructure and technology
Minister of Public Works and Transport Emphasizes Importance of Earthquake Preparedness
Minister of Public Works and Transport Erhan Arıklı has highlighted the significance of earthquake preparedness in light of recent events. Following a recent earthquake, Minister Arıklı stated, “We have seen how seriously the earthquake is a natural event that should be taken seriously. It is crucial that we continuously improve our earthquake-related infrastructure and technological equipment capacity.”
During a meeting with Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute Director Prof. Dr. Nurcan Meral, Minister Arıklı discussed the importance of collaboration between institutions in monitoring and predicting earthquakes. Meteorology Department Director Sinan Güneş was also present at the meeting.
Minister Arıklı noted the longstanding partnership between the Meteorology Department and the Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute, dating back nearly 40 years. He emphasized the importance of constantly improving technical infrastructure in the field of seismology to better prepare for and respond to earthquakes.
Recent maintenance work on earthquake measurement stations in TRNC was also highlighted by Minister Arıklı, who thanked Prof. Dr. Özel for the ongoing support. He expressed hope for further collaboration and development between the two institutions in the future.
As the threat of earthquakes continues to be a reality, Minister Arıklı’s remarks underscore the importance of proactive measures and investments in earthquake preparedness to ensure the safety and resilience of communities.
