Armenia declares peace in the region requires Turkey’s involvement

Armenia’s President of the National Assembly, Alen Simonyan, expressed his condolences for the devastating earthquakes that hit Turkey during the opening ceremony of the 61st Plenary Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC). He also shared that Armenia had immediately sent two aid groups to Turkey to provide assistance. Simonyan emphasized the importance of goodwill between neighboring nations, especially during a time where tensions are rising worldwide.
Simonyan also addressed the controversy surrounding the Nemesis Monument opened in Armenia, stating that it was an expression of the foreign policy of the Armenian state, managed by the prime minister and foreign ministry. He urged Turkey not to perceive it as a step with no good intentions, and stressed that Armenia is ready for peace and normalization of relations without preconditions. Simonyan acknowledged that the path towards establishing peace may not be easy, but emphasized the historic opportunity to open a new page for the region.
Regarding Armenia-Azerbaijan relations, Simonyan clarified that the Republic of Armenia does not have a territorial claim against Azerbaijan and is willing to make a peace agreement. He expressed hope that Turkey will take steps towards establishing peace in the region, as it is impossible without Turkey’s involvement.
Simonyan’s statements emphasize the importance of goodwill, peace, and normalization of relations between neighboring nations in the region.
