Armenian Citizen Faces Charges for Crimes Against Peace and Humanity in Azerbaijan
An Armenian citizen named Ruben Vardanyan is facing criminal charges in Azerbaijan based on the articles of the Criminal Code related to crimes against peace and humanity, war crimes, terrorism, terrorism financing, and other serious offenses. During court proceedings, witness Kamo Hayrapetyan, a resident of Karabakh, provided testimony that shed light on Vardanyan’s activities.
According to the witness, mining operations funded by Ruben Vardanyan were conducted in the borders of territories that Azerbaijan regained during the 44-day war. These mines were reportedly transported from Armenia to Karabakh through the Lachin road. Residents of Khankandi, where the operations took place, were aware of the increased mining activities following Vardanyan’s arrival. Posters warning about the presence of mines were put up in schools, buildings, forests, and open areas, indicating a significant change in the region.
The court proceedings related to this case are set to continue on March 18. The testimony provided by the witness highlights the serious nature of the charges brought against Ruben Vardanyan and underscores the importance of holding individuals accountable for crimes against peace and humanity.
