Armenian President Calls for Peace Treaty with Azerbaijan
Armenia’s President Vahagn Khachaturyan expressed his country’s desire to establish peace with Azerbaijan, stating that all existing and potential difficulties can be resolved through negotiations. This statement was made during a joint press conference with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Yerevan on March 31.
Khachaturyan emphasized the importance of signing a peace agreement between Baku and Yerevan, emphasizing the commitment to work towards establishing peace in the region. He stated, “We believe that the difficulties that exist and may arise in the future are surmountable, and any issue can be resolved at the negotiating table.”
The Armenian president also highlighted that the time for wars and conflicts in the South Caucasus has passed, stating that there are no resources for new wars in the region. He acknowledged the long-standing conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, expressing optimism that a resolution can be achieved through realistic and constructive steps.
Khachaturyan disclosed that both parties have a ready document on the table, indicating progress towards a potential peace treaty. He concluded by affirming Armenia’s commitment to continue working towards peace with Azerbaijan, expressing confidence that a resolution can be reached despite past challenges.
