Arrested Suspect’s Statement in Kadıköy Desire Song Murder Case

Mehmet Caymaz, the suspect who killed 30-year-old Cihan Aymaz in Kadıköy, has been transferred to the Anatolian Palace of Justice in Kartal after his procedures at the Kadıköy Public Security Bureau. Caymaz, who was then brought before the judge after providing a statement to the prosecutor’s office, was arrested on the charge of “deliberate killing” and sent to jail.

In his statement to the prosecutor’s office, Caymaz stated that he did not know the person named Cihan Aymaz prior to the incident and went alone to Kadıköy beach in the evening where a band usually plays music using saz and organ. When he asked the group to play music, they allegedly shouted at him, threatened him, and said they would “lynch” him. According to witnesses in the file, Caymaz took out a knife he was carrying with him and swung it once towards the people who were coming towards him, ultimately hitting Cihan.

Following a brawl between them, Cihan fell into the sea, and while trying to save Cihan, Caymaz claimed that Cihan attempted to drown him. Despite this, he brought Cihan towards the beach where his friends took him out of the sea. Caymaz explained that he did not leave the water as he thought these people would stab him. The coast guard teams later arrived and arrested him.

Caymaz denied wanting to kill Cihan and claimed that he was acting in self-defense. However, he was charged with “deliberate killing” and sent to prison. Investigations will continue into the incident.
