Artvin Hit by Heavy Rain: Landslides and Floods Close 32 Village Roads

Heavy rainfall in Artvin causes road closures and evacuations

Due to the heavy rainfall that began at noon and continued intermittently, several village roads in Artvin have become inaccessible. As reported, 18 village roads in Arhavi, 8 in Borçka, and 6 in Hopa have been affected by the weather conditions.

In response to the situation, the Provincial Special Administration, Highways, and district municipality teams have initiated work to address the road closures and ensure the safety of residents. Additionally, workplaces and a student dormitory in the industrial site around the Kapisre Stream in the Arhavi district center have been evacuated as a precautionary measure due to the increased risk of flooding.

A rescue operation was also carried out in the Sundura neighborhood of Hopa district, where 56-year-old Bedriye Yarar was trapped while collecting tea near a rising stream. Thanks to the efforts of AFAD and Hopa Search and Rescue teams, Yarar was successfully rescued.

Artvin Governor Cengiz Ünsal visited the affected areas in Arhavi to inspect the ongoing works. Governor Ünsal also visited the Kapisre Creek and received updates from authorities on the overall situation. He emphasized that all necessary precautions have been taken to ensure the safety of residents in the region.

Governor Ünsal stated, “Our teams are working diligently to protect our people. We remain vigilant and prepared with all our units to address any potential risks of further rainfall and flooding.” The authorities are on high alert to respond to any future developments and ensure the safety and well-being of the residents in Artvin.
