Violent Attacks on Municipal Workers Continue: Worker Injured in Road Rage Incident
An unfortunate incident occurred yesterday morning on Menekşe Street in Merkez Mahallesi. A municipal cleaning team of Avcılar Municipality was in the middle of emptying the containers on the street with a garbage truck, when a truck driving in front of them broke an internet cable passing over the road.
The incident took a violent turn as the driver of the municipal cleaning vehicle stopped to ensure that the workers pull the fallen cables from the road. The driver of the truck ahead became impatient and aggressive, honking his horn and demanding the road to be opened while the workers were trying to clear the way. The driver then got out of the car and physically attacked Avcılar Municipality cleaning worker Emrah Özdemir, causing serious injury to his right eye.
Due to the attack, Özdemir was taken to the hospital and is currently being treated for his injuries. The attacker was apprehended by Avcılar Police Department Patrol Teams Headquarters teams and taken to the police station.
Speaking out about the incident, municipal worker Emrah Özdemir reported that, while he was simply trying to explain the delay to the driver behind them, he was suddenly and violently attacked by the man. According to Özdemir, the ring worn by the attacker caused the injury to his eye.
Savaş Doğan, the President of the Municipality Labor Union Branch No. 2, expressed his concerns about the matter, stating that such attacks on municipal workers have increased recently. According to Doğan, this is not an isolated incident as many workers are injured while carrying out their duties, some losing their fingers or suffering damage to their eyes. He urged authorities to take the matter seriously and promised to pursue this issue until justice is served.
