Assembly Hosts Current Speeches – BRTK
The General Assembly of the Assembly of the Republic held a session with various speeches from members addressing important issues and concerns.
CTP Gazimağusa Deputy Erkut Şahali started the session with a speech on the expectations from the board members of various institutions. He criticized the government for transferring its powers to appointed board members and emphasized the importance of selecting qualified individuals to manage institutions like the Turkish Cypriot Electricity Institution and the Turkish Cypriot Milk Industry Authority.
Minister of National Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu responded to the criticisms by highlighting the necessity of appointing individuals with the right knowledge and skills to boards of institutions. He defended the government’s decisions regarding Eastern Mediterranean University and other institutions, stating that necessary actions were taken to ensure their sustainability.
Other deputies like Fikri Toros, Filiz Besim, and Sami Özuslu also raised important issues such as the accreditation of the Faculty of Medicine at Eastern Mediterranean University and the participation of Turkish Cypriot students in international competitions.
On the topic of road safety and environmental concerns, independent deputy Ayşegül Baybars criticized the government for failing to address increasing problems related to safety and security. She highlighted the need for coordinated management policies to ensure the well-being of the population and the environment.
Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources Hüseyin Çavuş responded by assuring that the government is taking steps to address these concerns and improve safety measures. He emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting institutions and resolving existing issues.
