Assembly of the Republic Wraps Up Work, Next Session on April 7 – BRTK
The latest discussions at the General Assembly of the Republican Assembly included topics such as public transport and permissions in Geneva. Public Works and Transportation Minister Erhan Arikli, along with CTP deputies Fikri Toros and Teberrüken Uluçay, discussed various issues related to the economy and Cyprus in their speeches.
Arikli highlighted the lack of progress in cooperation on electricity and water during the recent meeting in Geneva, noting that Southern Cyprus faces serious challenges with water reserves expected to decline by the end of 2025. He emphasized the need for both communities to address the energy requirements, as well as the importance of opening new doors for economic development.
During the session, CTP deputy Fikri Toros proposed supporting the opening of new doors in the Council of Ministers, particularly focusing on improving the traffic flow at Ercan Airport. Meanwhile, CTP deputy Teberrüken Uluçay discussed the potential benefits of the Enterkonnekte system, which aims to connect the countries in the region.
The discussions also touched upon public transportation issues, with CTP Pier Deputy Biray Hamzaoğulları expressing concerns about the inconsistencies in policies regarding transport licenses. Minister Arikli assured Hamzaoğulları that efforts are being made to address these issues through a collaborative approach.
Overall, the General Assembly concluded its current session, with plans to reconvene after the Ramadan Feast. The discussions highlighted the importance of addressing key economic and transportation challenges in order to promote sustainable development in Cyprus.
