“Assembly President and Ambassador Visit New Campus Under Construction”

President of the Assembly of the Republic of Northern Cyprus, Zorlu Töre, recently visited the under-construction campus of the Assembly and received updates from the authorities about the progress of the project. During his visit, he was accompanied by the Republic of Turkey Ambassador to Nicosia, Metin Feyzioğlu. The project, named the “TRNC Presidency and the TRNC Republic Assembly and the Nation’s Garden and Nation’s Mosque Project,” is being carried out by Blackkalem Engineering Construction Industry and Trade Inc. The project area is 657 thousand square meters, with a large part of it intended for the use of the public with sports facility, garden, and other service areas.

Initially, there was a great reaction to the project due to the cutting of trees in the area. However, Murat Kenkul, the country manager of the TRNC, explained that more trees would be planted than cut down. He also thanked Turkey for the campus, which will be put into service for the Turkish Cypriot people with its garden and sports fields.

Ambassador Feyzioğlu stated that the campus would not just be a building but a public living space, suitable for a green island. He said that they planned a parliament and a Presidency that is intertwined with people’s architecture and garden, and not viewed from afar. The construction is still in progress, but Feyzioğlu believes the project will be completed by November 15th.

Over 25 thousand trees of 150 different varieties will be planted in the campus by President Töre. The Millet Park is a significant investment and well-planned project, and Töre expressed his delight about the motherland Turkey. He emphasized the need to upgrade public buildings and infrastructure to accomplish the national cause, a task the TRNC has undertaken with boundless support from Turkey.

The National Garden will be covering a vast area of 470 thousand square meters, while the Presidency and Parliament area will cover an area of 187 thousand square meters. It is planned to complete the campus and park within the year. With the completion of buildings and landscaping, Turkey contributes greatly to the TRNC. There is no debt or budget from the TRNC for this project, as it is a grant from the Turkish state. Töre said, “Long live Turkey, I’m glad it exists.”

The project is seen as a seal that fills the call to recognize the TRNC and assures them of independence, sovereignty, equality, and permanence. The campus will be directly connected with the nation, a public garden placed at the disposal of the people within a short time.
