Astana Celebrates Nauryz with Festivities and Events
ASTANA – The Kazakh capital of Astana is currently in the midst of a vibrant celebration of the Nauryz holiday, with a ten-day lineup of concerts, exhibitions, performances, creative evenings, and other exciting events. The festivities kicked off on March 14 and are set to continue until March 23, offering residents and visitors a diverse range of cultural experiences.
One of the highlights of the celebration is Renewal Day on March 19, which will feature a citywide clean-up as part of the Taza Kazakhstan environmental campaign. In addition to the clean-up efforts, attendees can look forward to a craft competition and a food festival showcasing forgotten national dishes.
On March 20, National Sports Day will see the Nurly Zhurek Social Services Center hosting a national sports competition, as well as a togyzkumalak tournament for pensioners at the active longevity center. Other events planned for the day include a family relay race at the Qazaqstan track and field sports complex and demonstration performances at the Argymak equestrian sports complex.
Unity and Solidarity Day on March 21 will feature a special concert by the Kazakh orchestra Dostyk Sazy at the national military-patriotic center. The following days will see a puppet theater presenting the “Nauryz-Duman” show, as well as various national sports competitions throughout the city, including a Walking Football tournament.
As the festivities continue, March 22, known as New Year, will include the Nauryz Syilygy national awards ceremony at the Palace of Peace and Reconciliation, along with a performance of the play “Abai-Togzhan” at the Musical Theater for Young Spectators. The celebrations will wrap up on March 23 with Cleansing Day, focusing on environmental initiatives such as a citywide eco-campaign to clean snow from building surroundings and participation in Earth Hour.
