Astana International Financial Centre Attracts $3.1 Billion in Investments in 2024

The Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC) has released its operational results for the year 2024, showcasing a successful year of attracting investments. According to the announcement, the total volume of investments attracted through the AIFC platform reached $3.1 billion, marking a significant milestone for the financial center.

Of the total investments, $2.1 billion came from portfolio investments on the Astana International Exchange (AIX), while $1 billion was contributed by AIFC participants. Since its establishment, the AIFC has facilitated a total of $14 billion in investments, with $6.7 billion in portfolio investments and $7.3 billion from AIFC participants.

Governor of the AIFC, Renat Bekturov, emphasized the efforts made to create an investor-friendly environment in the region by building infrastructure and attracting major companies. The AIX trading volume doubled during the year, and the center saw the listing of the first local sukuk (Islamic bond). Additionally, investment fund volumes increased, crypto exchanges transitioned to full regulatory status, and the legal framework of the center was enhanced.

The AIFC has cemented its position as a leader in the Central Asia and Eastern Europe region, surpassing financial centers in cities like Prague, Warsaw, Istanbul, and Budapest. Astana moved up four spots in the overall ranking to secure the 62nd position among global financial centers.

Furthermore, Astana excelled in the Smart Centers Index 10, achieving the second spot in the Central Asia and Eastern Europe region. The AIFC welcomed over 1,100 new participant companies in 2024, a significant increase from the previous year’s numbers. Currently, more than 3,500 companies from 85 countries are registered within the AIFC, including prominent nations like the United States, the United Kingdom, China, Türkiye, and Singapore.

The results of 2024 lay a strong foundation for the continued growth and development of Kazakhstan’s financial sector, positioning the AIFC as a key player in the global financial landscape.
