
Astana Receives $14 Billion FDI Inflow over 25 Years

Astana, the capital city of Kazakhstan, has attracted over $14 billion in foreign investments over the past 25 years, according to Zhenis Kassymbek, the Mayor of Astana. Speaking at the July 5 Twin Cities Forum, Kassymbek highlighted the city’s impressive economic growth, with its gross output reaching $22 billion and the level of industry reaching $4.3 billion. The gross domestic product has also grown to $25 billion during this period.
Kassymbek noted that Astana has made significant investments in infrastructure and public facilities. The city has constructed 33 million square meters of housing, 670 kindergartens and schools, and over 100 cultural and sports facilities. As a result, Astana has become a regional hub for trade flows, attracting bright individuals, youth, tourists, investors, and global companies. The city is known for its creative economy, which serves as a magnet for various stakeholders.
In addition to the economic achievements, Kassymbek signed a memorandum during the forum to establish sister city relations with Rabat, the capital of Morocco, and the Nusantara National Capital Authority in Indonesia. This move highlights Astana’s commitment to fostering international partnerships and collaborations with other cities around the world.
The Twin Cities Forum, held to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Astana, gathered representatives from 17 cities across 13 countries. The attendees included officials from Kazakhstan, honorary citizens of Astana, veterans, cultural and sports figures, scientists, teachers, and civil servants. The forum featured eight panel sessions discussing various aspects of urban development and the role of cities as centers of growth and innovation in the modern world.
