
Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day to be Commemorated with Ceremonies on May 19th

TRNC Celebrates 19 May Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day with Ceremonies and Events
The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) is celebrating the “19 May Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day” with various ceremonies and events. On May 19, which marks the 104th anniversary of the Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s start of the War of Independence by sailing to Samsun on the Bandırma Ferry, ceremonies will take place in various districts, especially in the capital Nicosia.
The celebrations started on May 18 and will continue on May 19 and 20. As part of the celebrations, students will also visit the state protocol.
The ceremonies on May 19 will begin with a speech by the Minister of National Education, Nazım Çavuşoğlu, at 8:00 a.m., followed by the laying of wreaths at the Nicosia Atatürk Monument at 9:00 a.m. according to the protocol order. The ceremony will also include the presentation of soil from Anıtkabir to President Ersin Tatar by the Turkish Ambassador to Nicosia, Metin Feyzioğlu. Flags will be raised with a moment of silence and the National Anthem will be played.
Ceremonies will also take place in Famagusta, Kyrenia, Guzelyurt, Dock, Lefke, Geçitkale, and Yeni Erenköy, involving speeches, wreath-laying, a moment of silence, and poetry readings. CTEM High School History Teacher Emine Director, Famagusta Commerce High School literature teacher Hakan Uçar, Polatpaşa High School teacher Salih Şah, and Geçitkale Cumhuriyet High School teacher Selcan Dağlı are among those who will be giving speeches on the meaning and importance of the day.
The celebrations will conclude with the “104th Year Cortege” in Nicosia, where students and teachers from central schools, universities, the federation affiliated to the Sports Department, clubs and associations, non-governmental organizations and the public will participate. The walk will take place on the route from the Nicosia Kyrenia Gate Atatürk Monument to Dereboyu Avenue, followed by a concert by the Security Forces Marching Band and Ahmet Evan after the cortege arrives around Avenue-Samsung at 7:19 p.m.
